We will not put a single euro figure in this article, and we would like to explain why before you decide whether to keep reading.
Every “average wedding cost” number you find online is an average of weddings that are nothing like yours. A ceremony for twelve and a three-day celebration for three hundred sit inside the same average, and it tells you nothing. What is genuinely useful is knowing which lines move the number, which ones grow quietly after you have signed, and how to get a written price you can hold someone to.
That is what this is. Our own prices are written, itemised and confirmed before anything is signed — you can ask for them at sales@bledrose.com or see how our packages are built.
The seven lines that make up almost every wedding budget
1. Food and drink, per person
On almost every wedding we host, this is the largest single line. It scales directly with the guest count, which is why the guest list — not the flowers — is the real budget decision. Ask any venue for the price per person, including drinks, and ask what is and is not inside it.
2. The venue itself
Room hire, garden hire, or an exclusivity fee. Some venues fold this into the per-person price; some charge it separately; some waive it above a minimum spend. None of these is dishonest, but comparing two offers where one includes hire and the other does not is how couples end up shocked.
3. Accommodation
At a destination wedding, someone always ends up paying for rooms — either you, as part of the package, or your guests. Both are legitimate. What matters is that it is decided early, in writing, because it changes what you can ask of your guests elsewhere.
4. Photography and film
Wildly variable, and the one line couples most often regret under-spending on. It is also the one that is not affected by guest count — the same photographer costs the same for 40 guests as for 240.
5. Flowers and styling
The most elastic line in the entire budget. The same room can be dressed for a modest sum or for the price of a small car. A venue that already looks like something — a garden by a lake, a hall with its own chandeliers — lets you spend less here without the day looking bare.
6. Music and entertainment
A band costs a multiple of a DJ. Both work. Ask about the sound curfew before you book either, and ask whether the venue’s own system covers the ceremony and the speeches, because those are usually cheaper handled in-house.
7. The paperwork and the officiant
Modest in absolute terms, but it comes with deadlines rather than costs. See getting legally married in Slovenia.
The four lines that grow after you have signed
These are the ones that turn a comfortable budget into an uncomfortable one. None of them are anybody’s fault; they are simply predictable.
Guest count. Lists grow between the first enquiry and the final headcount — in our experience almost always upwards, rarely by less than ten percent. Build the budget on a number slightly above your current list, not below it.
“While everyone is here.” A welcome dinner the evening before. Brunch the morning after. A boat. Each is a lovely idea and each is a real line. Decide at the start whether you are hosting a wedding day or a wedding weekend, because the difference is roughly a third of the budget.
Transport between addresses. Every extra location on the day needs moving people, usually twice. If your ceremony, dinner and beds are at three addresses, coaches are not optional.
The rain plan. If the alternative to the garden is a marquee, it is booked and paid for whether or not it rains. If the alternative is a room the venue already owns, it costs nothing. This single difference is worth asking about before you compare any two quotes. We wrote about how a rain plan actually works.
Three things that genuinely reduce the cost at Bled
Marry on a weekday, or outside July and August. Late May, June and the first half of September at Bled are, to our eyes, the most beautiful times of the year — and the least contested. See the best time of year to marry at Lake Bled.
Reduce the number of addresses, not the number of guests. Cutting people is painful and saves less than couples expect. Cutting a location saves transport, time, a second set-up and usually a second styling budget.
Choose a venue that already looks like the photograph. Styling is where budgets go to disappear. A garden on the shore of the lake needs chairs, an arch and very little else.
How to get a price you can rely on
Ask every venue for the same four things, in writing:
- The total for your realistic guest count, not the starting price
- What is included per person — courses, drinks, service, hire, cleaning, taxes
- What is excluded and typically added later
- The cancellation and postponement terms, in full
If a venue cannot give you those four on one page, that is information too.
At Bled Rose Hotel, every offer is itemised — the hall, the menu, the drinks, the rooms, the extras — with nothing folded in that you cannot see. Ask us at sales@bledrose.com and we answer within one working day.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a wedding at Lake Bled cost? There is no single figure, because the guest count and the number of days drive nearly everything. The useful question is the cost per person, all in, at your realistic guest count — ask each venue for that number in writing and the comparison becomes simple.
Is a Lake Bled wedding cheaper than one in Italy or Austria? Slovenia generally compares favourably with the Italian lakes and the Austrian alps for equivalent quality, particularly on food and accommodation. But the honest answer is that your guest list and your standards, not the country, set your budget.
What is the cheapest way to marry at Lake Bled? A small ceremony on a weekday outside high season, at a single address, with the venue’s own kitchen and the venue’s own rooms. That is not a compromise version of a Bled wedding — for many of our couples it is the better one.
When do we have to pay? That depends on the venue’s terms, which is why point 4 above matters. Ours are set out in the written offer, with the deposit, the schedule and the cancellation terms on the same page.
