This is the least romantic page on this site and quite possibly the most useful one. Where your guests sleep decides three things: how much of your own party you get to enjoy, how much of the weekend feels like a weekend, and how much your guests end up paying to attend your wedding.
Bled is a small town with a short, intense season. Accommodation should be settled at the same time as the date — not three months before the wedding, by which point what is left is expensive and scattered.
How many rooms do you actually need
A useful rule from the weddings we host: roughly one room for every two guests, then adjust.
- Couples: one room per two people
- Single guests: some will share, most will not
- Families with children: usually one room, sometimes two
- Elderly relatives: a room close to a lift, always
- You: a room, and often a second one for getting ready
For a hundred guests, plan on 50–60 rooms. For three hundred, around 150. That second number is why a large wedding at Bled needs a venue with real capacity underneath it — see the large wedding guide.
Who pays
There is no correct answer, only a clear one. Three common models:
- Guests book and pay their own rooms — most common for large weddings, especially where guests travel from many countries.
- You host the immediate family and wedding party, guests pay their own — a good middle.
- You host everyone — generous, and it doubles as your budget’s largest single decision.
Whichever you choose, tell guests early and in writing. The wrong version of this is guests discovering in April that the wedding will cost them a week’s holiday budget.
Blocking rooms: the four things to check
Release date. Almost every room block has a date after which unbooked rooms return to the hotel. Know it, and remind your guests two weeks before it.
Attrition or minimum. Are you responsible for rooms nobody books? Ask directly, and get the answer in the contract.
Rate and what is in it. Is breakfast included? Tourist tax? These small lines multiply across sixty rooms.
Booking method. A dedicated link or code is worth insisting on. “Call the hotel and mention the wedding” produces chaos and duplicate bookings.
Why one address changes the night
There is a specific moment at every destination wedding, usually somewhere after midnight, when the shape of the party is decided. If guests have to drive, or wait for a taxi in a town with a finite number of taxis, or catch the last coach, they start leaving at eleven — first in ones, then in tens, and the room empties while the band is still playing.
If their bed is upstairs, nobody looks at the time. That is the entire argument, and it is a bigger one than it looks on paper.
The same applies to the morning. Guests who slept in the building come down to breakfast together and the wedding gets a second day for free. Guests scattered across six properties go home.
How this works here
Bled Rose Hotel is a four-star hotel on the shore at Cesta svobode 8, and the wedding happens inside it: garden ceremony by the water, dinner in the halls, party in the same building, guests two floors above.
Practically, that means:
- Rooms are part of the offer, blocked at the same time as the date, with the release terms written down rather than assumed
- No transport is needed at any point in the day
- The morning after is a breakfast, not a departure
- A wellness area for the day before and the day after — a genuinely good place to put nervous relatives
- Our restaurant for the welcome dinner on the Friday, without leaving the building
For guest lists larger than the house, we help place the overflow nearby and keep the wedding party itself under one roof — but we will always tell you honestly what fits and what does not before you commit.

Frequently asked questions
How many hotel rooms do we need for our wedding guests? Roughly one room per two guests as a starting point, adjusted for singles, families and elderly relatives. A hundred guests usually means 50–60 rooms.
When should we block rooms for a Lake Bled wedding? At the same time as you confirm the date, particularly for dates between June and September. Bled is small and fills early.
Should the couple pay for guest accommodation? Any of the three models works — guests pay, you host the close family, or you host everyone. What matters is telling guests clearly and early which one applies.
Can wedding guests stay at the wedding venue at Lake Bled? At Bled Rose Hotel, yes — the ceremony, dinner, party and rooms are at one address, so no guest needs to travel at the end of the night.
What is a room release date? The date when rooms held in your block, but not yet booked by guests, are returned to general sale. Ask for it in writing and remind your guests before it.
